Celebrate Earth Day 2020!

This is turning out to be one Earth Day Celebration for the books. What a year it's been and it's only April 22nd. But a quarantine is not an impediment to celebrate this important date, we can still do plenty of things inside our homes.

Let's go back in time and remember when it all started. The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970, just a few years after the release of a very special book that created a new social movement of environmental awareness, Silent Spring by Rachel Carson.

But what can we do to celebrate this very important global event during this quarantine?

Here are some ideas for you!

Fill your house or apartment with living plants, not the fake kind, or maybe just a few of those. But for the most part, buy or propagate your own living plants. It's fun and you are also cleaning the air inside your house and decorating your spaces at the same time. I love it!

I never thought I'd be able to keep a plant alive for more than a week, but oh surprise, I can! And now that I've been working from home I can tell you how much I've been loving growing and caring for all my plants.

Here are some of my green roomies:

The second tip I have for you is:

Be a messenger for the Earth and use your social platform to share information about environmental issues. There are plenty resources online where you can find inspiration to share (thank you Pinterest!). You can also share your ideas to help the environment, reduce your ecological footprint or how to educate "green" kids. Just find the ones you care about and start sharing! Every effort counts and it's important.

Lastly I share with you an idea I got from my dad and grandfather:

It's really cool to look outside my window and see the birds feeding and hearing them sing every day. Now, I'm not going to lie, it took about two weeks for the birds to come to the feeder and start digging in, I think they needed to see if it was safe for them, but once they did, they stop by daily!

I won't be sharing the bird feeder I made because it's still a work in progress, but here's some inspiration from the wonderful world of Google:

Mine is basically the one on the bottom hehe, but trust me, if you're lazy like me you can always just place a small container with water and another with seeds or bread crumbs and you're set!

There you go, some easy and fun things you can do during this time at home.

You can always visit www.earthday.org for more info and ideas.

Join the movement (from home!)

How are you celebrating Earth Day?

I would love to hear about your ideas, please share them in the comments below!

See you in the next one.
