The power of your INTENTION
One of the biggest lessons in my life has been the realization of the difference between my intention and my perfectionism. This has been a very important consideration because it has helped me discover the reasons supporting every action I have taken.
In order to better understand what I mean by Intention, let us define it first. According to the Merriam-Webster's Dictionary, Intention is:
The thing that you plan to do or achieve: an aim or purpose.
What you plan to achieve. This means that we decide what to do in order to reach our goal or purpose, what we feel or want. This can be a job, a degree, financial stability, etc.
Once we know this definition is easy to understand how important it is to be clear about your intention, right?
There is something that I've learned thanks to the mentors I've encountered along the way, some present in my life, like my family or teachers, but also others who have taught me through books and messages.
Oprah speaks passionately about the importance of our Intention. In her words, it was thanks to Gary Zukav's book "The Seat of the Soul" that her life radically changed. Realizing that she was going through life pleasing people for her sick intention of always seeking to please everyone. In his book, Zukav writes:
Every action, thought, and feeling is motivated by an intention, and that intention is a cause that exists as one with an effect. If we participate in the cause, it is not possible for us not to participate in the effect. In this most profound way we are held responsible for our every action, thought, and feeling, which is to say, for our every intention.
Our intention is everything, nothing happens without it. In every achievement, every victory, your intention has been the key.
I want to tell you a story of an experience I lived and that I'm completely sure happened precisely because of my intention. I clearly remember when I was in the search for a masters program and attended a meeting where they talked about the sustainability program at the University of Sonora. They mentioned the foreign professors and universities with which they maintained academic collaborations. I remember that moment perfectly when I read about Linköping University in Sweden.
I heard the angels singing and the sky sent a ray of light in the room where the meeting was held. Ok, not so much, but I definitely felt "something" inside me that told me that was where I should go.
My intention from that moment on became a master's degree and a research stay in Sweden at that university. And what do you think? It happened. But not in the simple and easy way you are thinking.
I asked to be considered for that research program in Sweden, but they told me it couldn't happen due to the professor's availability. Then they asked if I wanted to go to The Netherlands. Suddenly they told me the location was now England. Of course, to all of this I said yes, even though my ideal place was Sweden. Until one day they confirmed me that it will not happen in England and that the professor already accepted my visit in Sweden. I was ecstatic.
Then life happens and turns out I don't have a place to stay in Linköping (It's very hard to find an apartment in Sweden for some reason). What happened in the end? My professor got me a room to rent at their friends house!. And that's how I started my amazing scandinavian adventure.
Every road has bumps, detours, and surprises. But if we handle it with caution and are always sure of our destination, we will arrive safely.
It is unreal what we can achieve with our intention. Always remember the principle of INTENTION.
I encourage you to take some time to think and look back at some important events in your life with close attention. Remember your achievements and realize what path led you to achieve them.
2. Cheer yourself
Be your biggest supporter. Cheer for yourself. Be proud and rejoice in all that you have been able to achieve with your determination and dedication.
Always keep in mind that you can stop at any time and consciously define what your intention is, your choices and your motivation.
What are your heart's desires?
Why do you hope to achieve them?
I hope this message inspired you a bit to go back and look at your life with curiosity and give yourself a pat on the back. They deserve it!
See you in the next post.
